Frequently Asked Questions - General
March Mutual PAYEme is our umbrella company. Choose this option and we'll set you up as an employee of March Mutual - a tax-efficient vehicle allowing you to maximise your earnings as a freelancer or contractor. You'll be able to claim expenses and will enjoy full employee status and all the benefits this offers.
This is our Personal Services Company service (also known as a Single Person Limited Company). It is designed for contractors wishing to operate as a business: you become the sole employee and shareholder of your own company. March Mutual will set the whole thing up, and run it for you.
This depends entirely on your personal circumstances including whether you are outside IR35, your rate as a contractor and the length of time you intend to contract. We will quickly be able to establish which service will be best for maximising your earnings with a quick phone call.
Known formally as The Intermediaries legislation (IR35 was the title of the press release), IR35 is a Government law introduced in April 2000 to stop contractors and freelances avoiding tax and National Insurance payments. You can read a full explanation here.
Whether you choose March Mutual PAYEme, or March Mutual GoLTD, there are no IR35 risks associated with your status or income whatsoever. You'll remain completely within the rules and regulations of UK tax law at all times.
March Mutual PAYEme FAQs
It's free to join March Mutual PAYEme, our tax-efficient umbrella company - and there are no termination fees or minimum terms of joining either. We simply deduct a low, flat monthly, fortnightly or weekly management fee, starting from just £50 plus VAT a month, or £15 a week plus VAT.
We only charge you for the weeks you submit a timesheet, meaning you won't be penalised if you are ill or take a holiday.
Even after our fee has been deducted, you will still take home a far greater portion of the money you earn.
Once you've joined, you'll become an employee of March Mutual PAYEme. From accepting your timesheets to the processing of expenses, we'll look after all your employment and tax requirements. We have not included a tax calculator on this site as these can often be wildly inaccurate. How much you save will depend on your personal circumstances - which is why we recommend you give one of our tax experts a call to find out more.
You will be paid a combination of salary and off-set expenses. As an employee, you will be entitled to the Government's National Minimum Wage. You must receive this in order to minimise your tax and allow you to claim normal statutory benefits. In addition, you can also claim business expenses. Once these two amounts have been calculated, we will calculate the amount of commission you are due.
Your basic wage, expenses and commission will be paid to you as soon as the agency you are working for pays us. Payment is made directly to your bank account or building society via BACS, CHAPS or Foreign Funds transfer. We do not charge you for this service.
No, we will only pay you once we have received payment from whoever you are working for. We will chase outstanding invoices on your behalf though to ensure you get your money as quickly as possible.
If you want, we can send you a SMS text message as soon as your payment has been made. We will also send you a payslip detailing your earnings, either by post or email.
Once you have had your timesheet signed off by an authorised agency representative, either email or fax it to March Mutual. Full instructions on how to submit your timesheets probably are provided in your Members' Pack.
Very. Simply complete the March Mutual PAYEme expenses claim form that's included in your March Mutual Members' Pack and forward it on to us along with original receipts (to verify your expenses). These receipts are returnable to you once your claim has been processed. There is no limit to the amount of expenses you can claim, but we recommend regular submission of your expenses for faster processing.
If you want to claim for motoring expenses, you will need to keep a detailed log of your mileage.
Yes, we'll deduct these automatically from your income and detail them on your payslip and statements.
You're free to leave PAYEme at any time. There are no penalties for leaving, and you will be able to rejoin whenever you want. If you decide you would like to leave, we will provide you with a P45 form for you to pass on to your new employer.

Yes, it couldn't be easier. The first step is to call us so we can advise you on the best - and most tax-efficient - set-up for your circumstances. Then we'll supply with some short forms to complete and return, and that's it - you're ready to start working for your own PSC.
Yes, you have a contract with your own March Mutual Personal Services Company. You'll have full employment status and enjoy the benefits this status offers. It doesn't matter whether you're a home-based business or a freelancer or contractor working within an agency, you will receive the same rights. Once your application has been processed, we will send you your employment contract for you to sign and return to us.
As an employee of your own Personal Services Company, you will receive a salary, legitimate expenses, plus a tax-efficient dividend payment. First, we will arrange for you to be paid the Government's National Minimum Wage. You must receive this in order to minimise your tax and allow you to claim normal statutory benefits such as sick pay and holiday pay.
In addition to this salary, you can also claim business expenses against your company. It's essential that you claim your full allowable expenses if you want to reduce your tax liability and maximise your take-home pay.
Once we have deducted your salary and expenses from your PSC's income, we will be able to calculate your profit, paid to you (once tax has been deducted) as a dividend.
Your basic wage and commission will be paid to you as soon as the agency you are working for pays us. Expenses are not paid directly, but used to offset against tax, meaning more net pay in your pocket. Payment is made directly to your bank account or building society via BACS, CHAPS or Foreign Funds transfer. We do not charge you for this service.
As with March Mutual PAYEme, we can send you a SMS text message to confirm that payment has been made into your account. We will also send you a payslip detailing your earnings, either by post or email.

Your Pack includes full instructions on how to correctly fill out your claims form.
There is no limit to the amount of expenses you can claim. By claiming for what is rightfully yours, March Mutual can ensure that you are offsetting as much against your tax as possible - meaning more money for you every month.
Your March Mutual GoLTD Pack contains comprehensive guidelines as to what you can and can't claim for. However, we're here to help, and recommend that you call us the first time you make an expenses claim so we can check you're following our guidelines correctly - and not missing out on tax breaks.
